Hilos

Hilos means "threads" in Spanish. We use thread and embroidery as a way for us to help connect women to one another and to the heart of God.  We believe education, skills training, and intentional discipleship can help women create the change they want to see in their lives.

Our Approach

EMBROIDERY
TRAINING

Many women in rural Guatemala work from their homes. Single moms and widows are often unable to find employment due to a lack of childcare and/or cultural expectations. Embroidery is a something that women can do while at home, while also being culturally acceptable. As a part of our ministry we host embroidery workshops as for women to gain community and to learn a new trade skill.

Discipleship and love for Jesus is the breath and life of what we do as a ministry. We believe that one on one discipleship is where growth and true vulnerability collide.

Each participant is invited to participate in some form of discipleship whether through our ministry or through their local church. We host weekly Bible studies and have weekly check-ins with each of our artisans.

JOB OPPORTUNITIES

After taking part in the embroidery workshops, those who are interested may begin the process of working with us as a way to help supplement their income. Each woman is provided a mutually agreed upon contract and compensated bi-weekly for their embroidery work. Each Hilos product you purchase goes directly back into the ministry and used to support the Hilos Participants.
